Gandhi, Hitler, a Book, & Dog/God by da-AL plus Cheryl Batavia’s poem

Happiness Between Tails by da-AL

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” — supposedly Mahatma Gandhi said that. (Isn’t this picture of him great? He’s drafting a document at Birla House, Mumbai, August 1942. My novel-writer side can’t help but wonder if he knew that writing longhand enhances creativity — and I bet intelligence!) First off, he didn’t….

Second off, if anyone said it, is it true? I love animals and have followed a vegetarian diet for years. All the same, I’m definitely nowhere near a saint, particularly given my now-and-again deviations into the hypocracy of eating fish. My father was wicked to his family, yet tears rolled down his cheeks when he heard that local geese were slaughtered. Hitler and was a vegetarian for the last part of his life. And he adored his dog…

      1. I had read the poems in a hurry before, but sometimes I reread poems to really get it. They are all beautiful, but the way you captured the dog one 🙂
All the poems fit the article, glad she included them.

      2. Thank you, Angela, for taking time to read and comment on the poem. I am glad you enjoyed it. ❤ There is actually only one poem, all about our dog, Clifford! The subtitles may have been confusing. Thank you for making me aware! 🙂 All the best! Cheryl

      1. You are so welcome!! I do to.. I don’t think I scrolled to the bottom of her post so I’m so glad you posted it so I could read your poem and the plethora of books you have written.
Aw what a wonder dog Clifford was. Our animals are so near and eat to our hearts. We have our dear King Charles Cavalier spaniel, Harry that will be 13 in Dec if he makes it that long. He has been lame for 18 min now but still happy and not in pain but my husband gets up 2-4 times a night with him.( he’s a saint). I
Move him around all day and he barks when he needs to go out. So sad but like you say, we will do anything for our family members.
All is good with me Cheyrl, thanks and I hope with you as well!
        ❤️ Cindy

    1. Thank you, Michel, for your kind remarks about my poem. ❤ I am happy that you enjoyed reading it. Clifford was very special to our family.

da-AL is the author of the rest of this post. I believe that she used Hitler as an example of the love between humans and animals. Hitler was an evil, loathsome monster who seemed to have lost all feeling for his fellow human beings, but loved his dog, Blondi. da-AL also said that her father, a man who had little feeling for human beings, cried about geese being slaughtered.

Thank you, Michel for reading and commenting. I hope you are well and happy.

      Love, ❤ ❤ ❤

      1. Thank you Cheryl, your books are available on Amazon India as Kindle books. As soon as the festivals are over I would get them for myself and my daughter to read, and I would be proudly able to tell her that I have read many of your poems directly on WP 💖

    1. Thank you, Simone, for sharing your kind thoughts. Glad you enjoyed the poem! ❤ I have loved both dogs and cats. Sadly, I have also developed allergies. These days we just enjoy the wildlife in our yard. We have a rabbit and an armadillo in residence and are surrounded by squirrels and beautiful birds. 🙂 Have a great week! Cheryl
