    1. I also did a little research. It was interesting to note that Hindus and several religions celebrate Diwali, also called, the Festival of lights. Hanukkah is the Jewish Festival of Lights. There are many commonalities with Christmas as well…a star, candles, advent wreath, lights on trees. The light and darkness theme seems to be nearly universal. I am happy to celebrate enlightenment on any holiday!

Anytime I can celebrate enlightenment, and light triumphing over darkness, I will be happy to! 🙂 I did a bit of research and it seems that celebrations of light over darkness are nearly universal. Isn't that wonderful to know? 🙂

  23. Thanks for nudging me to look this up. I had read about the Festival of Lights in the Jewish holiday, but not Diwali. It is exciting to learn about these holy days and the commonalities we share

    1. Yes, the symbol of lights seems to be a prominent feature in many holiday traditions. Christmas has a star, candles, Christmas trees with lights, and advent wreaths with candles. Judaism has a Hanukkah menorah with candles. Kwanzaa, the African American holiday, has a kinara with candles. Diwali uses oil lamps, candles, and fireworks. I had a Hindu student once who told the class a little bit about Diwali, but I also had to do some research. 🙂
