In Celebration of Home

In Celebration of Home

Learning

rythm of place,

the passage of time here.

Ever-changing seasons roll by…

one year.

Mindful,

we have lived here,

sleeping, dreaming, waking

in a world of endless wonders,

our home.

Grateful

for sun rising

and setting in splendor,

waxing and waning of the moon,

bright stars.

Peaceful

domain of green woods,

play of light and shadow.

Whispers of breezes, songs of birds

soothe us.

Wisdom

from wild creatures

making their living here

in profusion of simple joys.

Serene.

Peace lives

under our roof.

Love lives within our walls.

Windows frame nature’s spectacle…

souls soar!

Our home…

solace from cares,

sphere of the mind and heart;

dreams and desires find fulfillment

within.

Although we had planned never to move again, we left our beloved home near the beach and moved inland to escape red tide. This poem celebrates one year in our new home as of February 17, 2021.

  1. Yes… home sweet home, and there’s no place like home, superbly expressed Cheryl…😀.. but suddenly my heart immediately drifts into feelings for all the millions of homeless in our home… 🙄🤨

    1. Thank you, Ivor, for your kind and thoughtful remarks. ❤ Yes, some people have lost businesses, jobs, and homes due to the pandemic. Programs in the US have helped many people hang on. I hope the pandemic is soon over. What is the situation in Australia?

    1. Laura, to me, home is just as you describe “Laura and Terry Land.” We live a very simple life, even more so as we grow older. Thank you for reading and for your thoughtful comments. ❤ Wishing you peace and all the simple joys of life. May you find daily inspiration for your musical journey 🙂

    1. Thank you, Kate. I totally agree that home is where the heart is! ❤ From the way you have described your forever home, it sounds wonderful. I love your photos of sunsets over the water.

We have been here for almost a year. It is far enough inland to be safe from the red tide. It now takes us 20-30 minutes to get to the beach, but I love it here!

      Have a great weekend! ❤

      1. and that’s all that matters Cheryl!

I found that if I have to get in the car I don’t usually go … prefer to walk or cycle everywhere as I didn’t have a car for years 🙂

    1. Thank you, Cindy, for your kind response. We are very happy here, even though the beach is a little farther away. We have escaped the red tide that was making us sick. ❤ It has been a tumultuous year, but it sounds like the fires are behind you, and the covid 19 numbers are beginning to fall. Have a wonderful week. 🙂

      1. You’re so welcome Cheryl.
I’m so glad you’re happy there and glad you are feeling healthier. Sounds like a great decision. It sure has been quite a year and yes, as soon as I said record highs, it has dropped. I hate to sound like a pessimist but I’m sure fires are around the corner. Glad you are well! ❤️

  2. This is beautiful, a cocoon of warmth. I especially like the part about how “Peace lives under our roof. Love lives within our walls.” It echos how I feel about my home as a sanctuary that I’ve become increasingly grateful for over recent years. Beautifully written. xx

    1. Thank you, Lawrence, for your kind comment. ❤ I am so glad you enjoyed the poem. Are you a fellow skywatcher? If I can't sleep, I often step outside to look up at the night sky. It's amazing to see something so old and so far away as the moon, stars, and planets. 🙂 Have a great day!

  3. “Windows frame nature’s spectacle…” Whether looking out to in, or in to out, or through a window to the soul, we will always find something beautiful if we keep our hearts and minds open wide, and prepare for the warm summer breeze.

      1. I’m moving my bedtime earlier and my waking time earlier too so I can start seeing more sunrises. I’m not naturally a morning person at the moment but I love seeing the beautiful orange rays crest over the hills. ☀
