Perfect Partner, My Shadow

Perfect Partner, My Shadow

Lighthearted I dance,

lightly with spritely shadow.

Sunny June morning.

Perfect partner, my shadow…

always keeping pace with me.

Afternoon transforms

my shadow and me…giants

taking giant steps.

Perfect partner, my shadow…

always keeping pace with me.

  1. I really enjoyed this poem. I tend to appreciate the simpler things in life more – like shadows – when they’re described so beautifully like this. Then I start to realise the wonder that can be found in something that I normally overlook everyday. I also enjoyed the consonance [Did I get that right?] in the phrase ‘lightly with spritely’.

    1. Thank you so much, Simone, for your kind response. I am no expert on the terms used to describe poetry. Often more than one applies. I would have said “internal rhyme,” but of course it is not a rhyming poem. Anyway, glad you enjoyed reading. ❤ ❤ ❤ An outstanding weekend to you!

    1. Thank you, JoAnna, for your thoughtful comment. ❤ We also enjoyed making shadow puppets when we were children. Sometimes the simple things like a cardboard box or bubble soap or shadow puppets result in more creative play than fancy toys. Have a fun weekend! 🙂

  2. A beautiful poem, and a beautiful topic Cheryl 💖. The shadow is such an important piece in the beauty of life, and yet so forgotten always. Life without a shadow would be flat and two dimensional like those old Egyptian paintings. It is indeed the perfect partner!

  3. True that shadow is the one which keeps pace with the individual. Holds hands like a friend. A great connection you have shown here with words of an individual and its shadow.

    1. Thank you, Parneet, for your kind comment. ❤ I first read these lyrics as a teenager in our church hymn book. I have always liked them. I couldn't get the video to work, but there are several renditions on YouTubeyou might enjoy, 🙂 Have a great day!
