Roses are Red

Roses are Red ❤

Roses are red,

violets are blue.

I’ve always wanted

a Valentine like you!

Roses are yellow,

violets are white.

I’ll put on my red dress…

We’re going out tonight!

Roses are pink,

violets are yellow.

I’m your kind of girl…

You’re my kind of fellow!

    1. Thank you so much, Cindy, for such a lovely response. ❤ Holidays have required a little more ingenuity this year. That's been a good thing in a lot of ways. I do look forward to going out again, and long to go to our favorite barbeque place…Later! 🙂 Have a wonderful Valentine's Day! ❤ ❤ ❤

    1. Thank you, Kritika, for your kind comment. ❤ The Valentine poem I wrote for Robert last year was very serious, I thought he might like something lighter this year. Your support is deeply appreciated! Hope all is well with you. Happy Valentine's Day! ❤

    1. The first two lines of the poem are taken from an old traditional poem, which refers to violets as “blue.” I think that’s because “blue” rhymes with “you.” There is a song sung by Bobby Vinton around the 1950s which borrows from this old poem. This cute song is probably available on YouTube, and I think you might find it amusing.

      Roses are red.
      Violets are blue.
      Sugar is sweet.
      and so are you!

The most common color of these wild violets is violet, but they do come in several other colors. I used to pick violet, yellow, and white violets as a child growing up in Pennsylvania. I have never seen violets growing in South Florida. African violets are a popular house plant that comes in many shades of purple, pink, and white,

Thank you, Loku, for your kind comment and your question. I hope my answer was not “too much information.”
Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! ❤ ❤ ❤ It's nice to remember your mother on that day as well as your friends.

    1. Angela, if you enjoyed this, I recommend the 1962 Bobby Vinton song, “Roses are Red,” available on YouTube. It is based on the same traditional rhyme as my poem.

      Roses are red.
      Violets are blue
      Sugar is sweet
      and so are you.

Happy Valentine’s Day. Hope you have some great plans! ❤ ❤ ❤
