“Misty woods…”

“Tracks of a lone wayfarer…”
A Dusting of Snow
A chill is in the air,
misty woods foreshadowing
winter’s first snowfall.
A dusting of snow…
tracks of a lone wayfarer
on forest byway.
A dusting of snow
lies softly on fallen leaves,
touches trees with white.
Melting snow streaks windowpanes…
We watch winter’s first snow fall.

Cheryl, this is pure magic! The imagery of misty woods, winter’s first snowfall, and the delicate touch of snow on fallen leaves is beautifully crafted. I felt like I was right there, witnessing the lone wayfarer’s tracks on a forest byway. Well done!

The photos, a Christmas gift from the photographer, brought back vivid memories of living in PA and VA and enjoying snow. I usually choose photos after writing a poem, but in this case, I used the photos as inspiration.
Have a great week! ❤

Thank you so much, Maggie. ❤ Glad you enjoyed the poem. For the first 45 years of my life I enjoyed snow. For the last 29 years, I have lived in Florida where it never snows. Though I have great memories of playing in the snow, I don't miss the realities!
Time for a trip to the tropics, maybe? 🙂

The photos given to me by the photographer as a Christmas gift brought back vivid memories of snow and were the inspiration for the poem. Though I have great memories of fun in the snow, I don't miss the work and inconvenience it brings.
Have a great week! ❤

I have experienced rainfall only a few times in Kashmir, Shimla and Sikkim, but every year I make it a point to enjoy the first rainfall.

Thank you for your beautiful response, KK. ❤ It means a lot to me.
The first rainfall marks the change of seasons, as well as being beautiful and life-giving! It is soul-satisfying to live in harmony with nature.
October is usually the beginning of our dry season here, but this year, it continues to rain, and the grass is still green. Crazy weather!

El nino effect is everywhere. Today it rained here too. It’s becoming colder now.

El Nino. I hadn’t thought of that, KK, but it does make sense. I guess I was too focused on the idea of climate change. 🙂

Hi Dwight, Yes, I do miss Virginia sometimes, especially the Shenandoah National Park. I know I will never hike to another waterfall. I am just glad I enjoyed the park while I was there. You must miss Virginia sometimes as well, but at least, you still have a little snow! XO
Happy weekend!
