Honeybunch & Sunshine

Babysitter’s cat

had kittens. Wow! Honeybunch

was so excited!

Calico kitten,

Sunshine, was a birthday gift…

Honeybunch was three.

Small girl and kitten…

Honeybunch and her Sunshine

became lifelong friends.

Sunshine was sunny…

swatting and chasing cat toys,

purring and snuggling.

Cuddled in slumber,

Honeybunch and Sunshine roamed

in the land of dreams.

Hiking through the woods,

Sunshine walked with Honeybunch

down to the river.

Honeybunch grew up,

Sunshine lived for fourteen years…

They were lifelong friends.

  1. So beautyful Cheryl 🙂 to all the sunshines of the world who light up the part of our lives shared with theirs and become the best of friends – a friendship which demands only love and nothing else.

    1. Thank you, Deb, for sharing your beautiful thoughts. I really appreciate your taking the time to read and comment on my work. I agree with what you say about pets. They are pretty selfless. When my Grandfather lay dying far away in another state, I was lying face down on the carpet crying. Sunshine came over and lay down next to me. She was a great comfort.

Take care, Deb, and don’t burn the Smilies! ❤ Cheryl

    1. Laura, thank you for taking time to read and share your thoughts. ❤

I ran this poem by my 51-year old daughter to fact check and asked her if she remembered the nickname, "Honeybunch" from her preschool years. I was delighted when she said that she did and that she liked the poem. 🙂

      All the best! Cheryl

    1. Thank you, Hamish, for sharing your thoughts. So glad you like the poem! ❤ I am trying to preserve some memories for my children by writing about events in their childhoods. Yes, I agree, it is easy to get our priorities skewed! Have you finished your novel?

      All the best! 🙂 Cheryl

      1. Time spent with our families is some of the best we can spend.

Yes! Thank you for asking! I finished the first draft last Sunday and have now started putting it all together into Scrivener to be one manuscript. After I import it, I’m going to put it to the side for a bit as you’ve suggested and let my subconscious mind think about it. 🙂 Then, when I come back to it I’ll be all ready to edit with a fresh mind, and hopefully be more ready to make the difficult but necessary choices about chopping and changing things.
