Nature’s Love Songs through the Seasons
Love songs on balmy, tranquil nights…
Crooning crickets’ cheerful chirping,
tree frogs’ soothing, silvery songs
commence the symphony of spring.
Oak tassels shed golden pollen.
Cardinal serenades his mate.
Warmer days are growing longer…
What cozy nests the birds create!
Cicadas emerge from slumber,
soon shed their shells, and spread their wings…
Cicadas’ perfect synchrony…
the noisy chorus summer brings!
Pollinating trees and flowers,
yellow butterflies, buzzing bees.
Fledglings, confident in their flight,
feast on ripe acorns and berries.
Now, the days are growing shorter,
chilly when the sun is gone.
Love songs are borne on winter winds.
Lovers greet morning’s rosy dawn.

Early Signs of Spring on the SW Gulf Coast of Florida
Last night, on our lanai, I heard the music of crickets and tree frogs. This morning, I saw a live oak tree in bloom, its golden tassels gleaming in the warm sunshine.
Fall arrives around the New Year here, and spring begins in February. Summers are hot and rainy, with temperatures almost never above 95 degrees. From June to October is hurricane season.
Winters are mild and sunny with little rain, and our population swells with “snowbirds,” people who spend the winters here. We generally have a handful of cold days in January, but it doesn’t snow. Most years, it doesn’t freeze.
Thank you so much, Cheryl, for the beautiful poem and the additional explanation!

Selma, Thank you for your beautiful comment! π The cicadas are not here yet, but when they arrive, it seems like their chorus lasts forever!
The building boom continues in our neighborhood. Wooded lots are fast disappearing, and wildlife are losing their habitat. I will feed the birds enjoy the magic as long as possible! If I ever can, I will buy the lot next to us where animals can make their home.
I see you in my imagination, Selma, tending the lovely shrubs and flowers in your yard. Birds and bees and butterflies like to visit you, and they are welcome there. πποΈ

What a lovely poem, Cheryl! Your depiction seems so real. Spring is my favourite season, but it lasts for hardly one and half months. Thank you for sharing backstory.

KK, I am happy that you enjoyed the poem. π It is real, but it may not last too long because of the construction frenzy all around us.
Like you, I enjoy spring. Dry, sunny weather continues until our rainy season starts in June. Thank you for your kind words.
Happy spring, KK! Enjoy it while it lasts! π¦πΉποΈ

Spring is just around the corner, and I am sure it must be lovely there…flowering trees, spring bulbs in bloom, wildflowers, baby animals and birds. There are advantages to living where there are dramatic changes of seasons. It’s much more subtle here!
Warm wishes to you and Richard! βοΈ πΈπΊπΌπ£π₯
