Haiku for Summer Nights

Birdsong delights us

on peaceful, mid-summer nights…

sighing, “Whippoorwill!”

We ponder the vast cosmos,

the far reach of time.

Summer thunderstorm…

We lie in bed, listening

to rain on the roof.

Happy Summer!

Here, on the SW Florida Gulf Coast, the temperatures are rising, and grass is parched and brown. Yesterday, we got several brief thunder showers, our first hints of welcome summer rains. Today, the sky is overcast, promising more rain. We need it!

Happy summer! A little early for our friends in other locales, but heartfelt!

Thank you, Cheryl, for your beautiful verses and the images! I am waiting for the rain because at the moment is just getting hot and plants need water! I am glad that you both are well!

Lovely Haiku, Cheryl … oh, please send us some rain, down here in western Victoria and South Australia, we are experiencing a drought-like dry spell … 🌏😍🌞

Thank you for your kind appreciation of the haiku, Ivor. ❀️

As dry as it has been here, I certainly can relate to your drought conditions. However, I know that, in Florida, by August, we will surely be sick of rain, and maybe hurricanes too!

In the mean time, we both need to do a rain dance.🀣

Hope you get some relief in Victoria and South Australia! πŸ’•πŸ€πŸ’•

Glad you enjoyed the poem. Thank you for your kind words. Where I live has been described as a “Mediterranean Climate.” I will have to do some research on the climate in Oman. I think it’s great all the wonders that surround us wherever we live!

Subashini, I read a little bit about the climate of Oman last night. It seems you have a wonderful variety of climates: a lovely green coastal climate, hot desert in the interior, and a cooler climate in the mountains. 😊

      Have a lovely week! πŸ’•

Kritika, thank you for your delightful comment! πŸ’•

I am sorry that summer is too hot where you are. How hot does it get?

Days in the mid eighties are here already. We are headed for summer temperatures of ninety to ninety-five degree highs and daily thunderstorms. We have been getting some much-needed rain in the last few days. I do love thunderstorms!

      Keep cool! Enjoy the birdsongs.

Lots of love and hugs to you! β›ˆοΈπŸŒˆβ€οΈ

It’s 41 or 42 degrees Celsius highest nowadays. Rains would have been a relief but the other cities are receiving rains and not the place I am in.

        Birdsongs are soothing. πŸ™‚
Loads of hugs and love to you too Cheryl (hearts) Keep healthy.

We had heavy rains yesterday. Strong winds. Trees overturned in some areas. Today it was sticky hot. Wind from the south.
So nice to feel from this post that you’re enjoying the season. Happy you’re well. Bless you always. Thanks for sharing. Hugs.

Sorry to hear that you are having such extreme weather, Selma! I wish you a calm and peaceful summer going forward! πŸŒžπŸ€πŸŒˆ

We have been informed that a strong hurricane season is expected here this year. What a dumb idea to try to abolish FEMA, Federal Emergency Management Agency!

      Take care! πŸ’•

Glad you liked the photo of the nightjar, Brian! It was the only one I could find. I guess, because they are nocturnal, they are seldom photographed. Though I have heard them, I have never seen one. Their appearance was not what I would have expected.

We are having our rainy season with high temperatures of 85 to 90 degrees. Suddenly, the grass is green again!

      Happy Sunday! 😊
