What is Courage?

Once again, Ukrainian utilities are under attack. Many Ukrainian civilians will be forced to endure another freezing winter without light, heat, water, and electricity.

What is Courage?

Courage is Ukraine…

David versus Goliath,

Ukraine under siege.

Courage is Ukraine…

hard life among the ruins.

War drags on and on.

Courage is Ukraine…

US support wavering

amidst great chaos.

Courage is Ukraine…

Neighbors fear marauding bear.

Allies increase support.

I whole heartedly agree, Cheryl! What a wonderful poem and tribute to Ukraine’s courage. It is so sad and disheartening to witness and tolerate. I wish it wasn’t so and I can’t imagine what they have to endure which is so senseless and barbaric. We can never forget! Thank you for sharing your support and these wonderful photos! πŸ’™πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ’™

Cindy, thank you for your kind and empathetic comment! I wrote this poem and wasn’t going to post it immediately. Then I saw on the news that Ukrainian utilities were being attacked, inflicting misery on civilians again this winter, and I went ahead and posted it. “Barbaric” is a very appropriate term to describe such behavior πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸŒ»

Glad you enjoyed the photos. Ukraine is a beautiful country, and hopefully Ukraininas will be able to rebuild it in the near future. I have Ukrainian neighbors, and they couldn’t be nicer!

Hope you are having a lovely weekend! πŸ’™πŸ’›πŸ’™

You’re so very welcome, Cheryl. How could I not understand and agree with the sentiments of your words I share deeply. It’s just below the belt behavior that chills the insides. It’s important to speak out about atrocities like these and I soooo much share your concern and love for a beautiful country and people. I just hope we can return to some sense of civilized behavior soon.
You’re kind.. thanks and you too!!!

      I agree, Rosaliene.

Our Ukrainian and Russian neighbors are friends. My two youngest children are from Russia. My late husband’s family are of Russian and Polish desent.

I am saddened by this war and the people on both sides who are suffering. Wars are frequently not fought for the benefit of the common people.

A wonderful poetic tribute to Ukraine and its people- Courage is Ukraine… I loved the refrain. The situation is very pathetic- a beautiful country is now in ruins. Your images give words to your feelings. A timely share, CherylπŸ™πŸ’

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, KK. I once posted a photo of a beautiful Ukrainian opera house. As I was working on this post, I kept wondering if it still survives. Glad you liked the poem and the photos. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸŒ»πŸ’•

We have both large Ukrainian and Russian communities here. My Russian and Ukrainian neighbors are friends.

The Ukrainians I have met are resourceful and hard-working. If anyone can rebuild, it is the Ukrainians. I hope they get the opportunity.

Thank you again for your kind words, KK! You made my day! 🌹

Thank you for your kind words Chris. Yes, it is hearbreaking. In the US, the focus shifted more toward Gaza for a while. The BBC has good worldwide coverage. Interesting that you have seen the dog before. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸŒ»πŸ’™

Yes, da-AL, you would certainly expect that we would have become more enlightened by now! Unfortunately, greed, hatred, and a lust for power are still with us. It always amazes me that we haven’t evolved beyond this point.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. πŸ’™πŸ’›πŸ’™

I have been reading your poems, “liking,” and writing comments, but cannot get them to go through. I am not having issues commenting on other blogs.

You’re welcome, Cheryl. It’s frustrating about the comments, since some don’t have a problem, yet others do. WP hasn’t been able to figure out the problem. πŸ™„

It really got me thinking, Cheryl. We usually picture courage as something loud or heroic, but you nailed it by showing how it’s often found in small, quiet moments too. Thanks for the reminder that even gentle bravery counts.

Thank you so much for your kind, insightful comment, Ritish. Civilians often suffer in wars, and some, understandably, just give up. Others endure, resist, ard provide assistance and support for their country. Although I hate wars, I admire bravery and patriotism.

Hope all is well with you. πŸ’•πŸŒ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ’•

With all the disturbing events worldwide, it is not easy to keep track of everything. It is sad that Ukraine continues to suffer, that Gaza seems to be almost totally destroyed, and that there is unrest and violence in the US and many other countries. I hope to see a more peaceful era in my lifetime. πŸ•ŠοΈ
